Water assessment in transboundary river basins: the case of the Medjerda River Basin

Abstract Water resources in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region) face over-exploitation over-pollution due to population growth, climate change lack of advanced water governance approaches. These challenges become more serious transboundary river basins may lead conflict between riparian countries. The main objective this paper is assess needs at Medjerda River Basin (MRB), shared by Tunisia Algeria using Evaluation Planning (WEAP) system 2020 2050. Four scenarios were built current future status supply demands both results show that demands, shortages are increasing, some demand sites will real scarcity development practices. Therefore, new allocation management plans should be examined regional level based on collaboration among all stakeholders.
